PART OF A SERIES WE WILL UPDATE REGULARLY:
LATEST UPDATE from 1/18/2012:
Statement from Florida Senate President Mike Haridopolos:
“We have been fortunate in this Republican Presidential Primary to have many solid candidates. I was not planning to publicly endorse a candidate before the Florida primary. However, I have grown deeply concerned and disappointed about the attacks being launched on Mitt Romney by other candidates. I believe we are the party of better ideas. We need to focus on the positive ideas that our party can bring to the policy arena and not simply attack our political adversaries, both Republican and Democrat.
“Rather than talking about how President Obama has weakened the American economy or debating limited government solutions for turning our country around, Mitt Romney’s opponents are spending too much time on misleading and counter-productive attacks. Those attacks on a fellow Republican won’t help our party secure victory in November and may, in fact, help President Obama get re-elected. It’s time for Republicans to be the party of better ideas and debate how we grow our economy and create new jobs – and I believe Mitt Romney is the best man for the job.
“Mitt Romney possesses solid private sector experience and has a proven conservative record – he is a principled, limited-government Republican who is focused on cutting spending, implementing tax reform, and reducing government red tape. He is the only candidate to outline a plan to deal with our economic competitors abroad, and he’s run an honorable campaign to uphold the principles of the Republican Party and defend the ideals that make America exceptional.
“I encourage all Florida Republicans to support Mitt Romney in the primary and to work hard for him in the general election to ensure President Obama is a one-term president.”

We reported on the irresponsible spending at the Miami-Dade REC recently(SEE OUR ARTICLE HERE), and with the filing of the Third Quarter 2011 report, we see that not much has changed. We also received a response in our comments section of our earlier article, purportedly by the Miami Dade State Committeewoman (“SCW”), Liliana Ros (pictured left). The comment asked what was wrong with the State Committeewoman offering a “below market” rent to the REC for the space it rents for its headquarters. We would ask the following: “Why, if the rent has been ‘below market’ did it suddenly get reduced in the third quarter?” For a refresher, Robert O. Ros, of 5708 NW 5th Street, Miami, FL 33126, is the President of SOR Invesments (“ROS” spelled backwards), from which the Miami-Dade REC rents space for its headquarters. This is the same address at which Liliana Ros, the Miami-Dade State Committeewoman, is registered to vote. Rent to Ros’s company, SOR Investments, was paid at $2,033 per month from January 2011 through July 2011. On the third quarter report, rent for August and September went down to $1605 per month. So why the change of more than $400 less per month? Read our full story below. Continue reading →

REC Watch – As reported by the Miami Herald in June, the Miami-Dade REC is broke. See here: MIAMI HERALD ARTICLE ON MIAMI-DADE REC GOING BROKE.
So, how did it happen, especially after the Miami Dade REC, which is led by Chairman Erik Fresen, who is also a Florida State Representative, raised about $78,000 at their Lincoln Day in February 2011? It turns out the party’s employees, J.C. Hernandez (paid $36,019.27 from 1/1-6/30/11), Mariela Jewett (paid $12,603.03), and Aida Zayas (paid $3,005.83) this year received together in the first six months more than $51,000 in pay; roughly what the party netted at its February Lincoln Day. Even more interesting is that the party rents its space from SOR Investments ($12,198), for which the President is Robert O. Ros, of 5708 NW 5th Street, Miami, FL 33126 according to records at the Florida Department of State. SOR Investments Annual Report from Florida Department of State. This is the same address at which Liliana Ros, the Miami-Dade State Committeewoman, is registered to vote. We at FCN wonder if contributors to the county party know that most of their money goes towards paying party employees. The wasteful spending at the Miami-Dade REC is an example of how not to run a county party. Here’s our complete story and analysis. Continue reading →
