The Lee County Republican Party State Committeeman and County Chairman swapped roles in Saturday’s election of new officers for the party’s executive committee.
According to the News-Press.com, “Former state committeeman Charles Dauray was elected chairman of the Republican Executive Committee (REC) without opposition, and former chairman Gary Lee won a contested vote to be named the new state committeeman. About 120 REC members were present and eligible to vote; about 100 other activists, elected officials and others turned out to watch the proceedings at Edison State College. …
While some members said they’d heard shortly before the meeting that Lee would pursue the committeeman’s spot — with the assumption that Dauray would win chairman — others said they were surprised that election came so quickly.”
